Sonic Advance 2 was developed by Sonic Teams and co developed by Dimps. The game is published by Sega and co published by THQ. The game producers are Yuji Naka and Hiroshi Matsumoto. The game director is Akinori Nishiyama. The Art Director is Yuji Uekawa. The game composers are Tatsuyuki Meda, Yutaka Minobe, and Teruhiko Nakagawa. Sonic Advance 2 is made for the Game Boy Advance platform. In Japan, Sonic Advance 2 is released on the 19th December 2002. In United States, Sonic Advance 2 is released on the 9th March 2003. In PAL region, the game is released on the 28th March 2003. The game can be played in either single or multi player game mode. Sonic Advance 2 is built on a modified game engine of Sonic Advance.
The characters can fly in the air and perform stunts. They will not curl into a ball after jumping from a spring. This trick is performed by holding down the direction key on the D pad and R button. These stunts are implemented to defeat the foes.
If a character continues to runs and did not stop, the sound barrier will become shattered and afterimages will appear behind them. While the sound barrier is being shattered, you can run on water and attack the enemy with the B button. To decrease the shattering period, collect the rings. Some objects found in the game can make the character enter into a state. In the beginning, Sonic is the only playable character. As Sonic finish each stage, and conquer its boss, other characters will be unlocked. Amy is unlock after Sonic, Tails Cream, and Knuckles have beat the bosses and collected the Chaos Emeralds.
Sonic Advance 2 has several characters including, Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Cream the rabbit, Amy Rose, Vanilla the rabbit, Dr. Eggman, and SuperSonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog can be played from the beginning of the game. Sonic has the ability to jump into the mid air with the A button. Miles “Tails” power can be played after Sonic finish the Music Plant stage. Tails can fly into the sky by pressing the A button. Tails’ tail can spin by pressing the B button. Knuckles the Echidna can be played after Sonic defeat him in the Sky Canyon. Knuckles has three abilities including glide, climb and punch. Cream the rabbit can be played after Sonic finish the Leaf Forest stage. Cream is the character that has the second highest speed movement in the game. Cream can fly by flapping her ears. Amy Rose is unlocked after Sonic have collected all the Chaos Emeralds. Vanilla the rabbit is the mother of Cream. Vanilla cannot be played as a game character. It has a small role in the game. Dr. Eggman appears as a boss in each zone. Super Sonic is a playable character after Sonic has finished the game with four characters and collected all the Chaos Emeralds.
There are 7 Special Rings in every act. The character will be able to proceed to a Special Stage after collecting the 7 Special Rings. The Chaos Emerald is located in the Special Stage. The Special Stage that is accessed is based on the zone that the character is located.
